Thanks, Elisabeth, for this thoughtful response. I think sometimes interest — in cultures, religions, etc — can be fetishistic — not saying yours is, but I think it can happen. I have heard people commenting that Judaism is “so spiritual” and oft-repeated tropes of “the nice, Jewish boy” that women should aspire to marry, even taking it to the very weird and gross stereotype I have heard, “Jewish men don’t beat their wives.” I think it can be kind of insane how people relate to others, the stories we make up, and what we think we know and understand; and I think it’s very important to critically evaluate and examine all of that — I try to do that as well, as hard as it can be. Thank you again for being here and reading with an open mind and heart.
